Playschool Update

Registered Families

General Meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 1st at 7pm. All families must attend and must bring their completed registration package. Watch for an email to come out in early August with online registration details, parent job description and your child’s start date. Please review the Parent Handbook found online before the start of classes. Classes will begin with staggered entry on Tuesday, Sept. 7th. Hope you enjoy your summer – looking forward to seeing you in September.

About the Playschool

Riverbend Playschool is a friendly, vibrant environment for children in the two years before kindergarten. It is located centrally in the Riverbend community, next to Earl Buxton Elementary School, in the Riverbend Community Centre, and has been in operation for over 25 years. There are both morning and afternoon classes available — two days per week for 3-year-olds, and three days per week for 4-year-olds (mornings or afternoons). We now also offer a 3/4-year-old combined class on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.

The school curriculum and activities foster the principle of “Learning Through Play,” and children are encouraged to be creative, playful, social, respectful and helpful. Our school is “Cooperative” in that all parents participate in the school’s operations. There are many different roles parents may choose to play, from preparing crafts, to sorting toys, to participating on the executive. With so many different opportunities for involvement, there is something for everyone. Each parent also has an assigned day every few weeks (how often depends upon class size) where he or she helps in the classroom.

The Riverbend Playschool is a registered Society. A copy of its bylaws is available upon request.
