Teacher Profile: Michele Rasmussen |
||
Michele Rasmussen joined our staff in October, 2003 from Yellowbird Playschool where she taught for 7 years. In total she has over 23 years teaching experience at the preschool level. She earned her diploma in Early Childhood Development from Grant MacEwan College. The playschool’s ‘Learn Through Play’ philosophy falls in line with Michele’s own beliefs about working with children. She feels that children learn best by experiencing and being immersed in all aspects of play. Play is a natural process which takes place at home, at school, at the park and everywhere. She believes we are all facilitators of play, and she as the teacher provides the materials and setting for play to occur. Play is a child’s work. Michele feels children develop many necessary skills through play, such as problem solving, patience and, of course, cognitive and motor skills needed for life. Each centre in the classroom is set out with learning opportunities that are stimulating and fun, while they also utilize teaching tools that focus on concepts understood by young children. Michele is a native of
Edmonton and lives with her husband Darcy, who owns
and operates TriStar Controls. They have 3 children
who seem to have become full grown in a very short
time. All of them are currently working in their
chosen fields. |
